Dangerous driver sold car at scene

A dangerous driver was allowed to sell his car at the scene of his arrest, a court has heard.

Mark Andrew Austin, of Moyglass Place, Strathfoyle, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on September 28, last year.

Derry Magistrates Court heard the 27-year-old was performing ‘doughnuts’ on the Temple Road when he was stopped by police.

Nicola Rountree, defence counsel, told the court it was ‘hard to imagine a worse piece of driving on a public road’.

She added that the car was a track car and Austin was showing a potential buyer what the car could do. Ms Rountree said the 27-year-old was ‘foolish’ and ‘instantly regretted his behaviour’.

The barrister also told the court Austin sold the car at the scene in front of police because he ‘wanted it out of his life’.

District Judge Barney McElholm fined the 27-year-old £400 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
