A brave Derry man took on burglars he discovered rifling through his stuff on Friday morning, police have confirmed.
An altercation broke out between the local man, who is in his 20s, and one of the criminals, which spilled out on to the street.
The incident happened at Bethany Hall in the Park Avenue area of Rosemount.
Detectives in Derry have now launched an appeal for information to help them catch the burglars.
A PSNI spokesman said: “At approximately 7.40am, a man heard people in his house. He went downstairs and found two men there. One man made off with a laptop, however there was an altercation between the home owner and the other man which spilled out onto the street.
“The other man eventually made off with a games console. The two men are believed to have headed in the direction of Park Avenue on foot.”
The two men are both described as being in their late teens or early 20s and of thin build.
A local Detective Constable said: “I would appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area or who knows anything about this incident to contact CID at Strand Road Police Station on the non emergency number 101.
“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
