A former couple have appeared in court accused of child cruelty.
The man and woman, who cannot be named to protect the identity of their alleged victims, face a total of 22 charges alleged to have been committed between January 1, 2006 and June 7, 2011.
The alleged victims were under 16-years old at the time.
The woman faces charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, nine charges of common assault and four charges of child cruelty.
Her former partner is accused of two charges of common assault and four charges of child cruelty.
The defendants declined to say anything in answer to the charges or to call any evidence.
They were released on their own bail of £500 to appear at the crown court on December 18.
Deputy District Judge Mervin Bates also banned the defendants from having any contact with the children, stating it would be “entirely inappropriate”.
