A woman who was caught driving with no insurance and while disqualified has been given a six month probation order.
Bridget Barrett from Glenabbey Drive appeared at Derry’s Magistrates court on Friday charged with the offences.
The court was told that on April 20, 2015, the defendant was stopped as she drove along Buncrana Road.
It was discovered she had no insurance and she was disqualified from driving.
Her defence barrister Eoghan Devlin told the court that through no fault of her own the defendant found herself in a very isolated position.
He said she had not been in court on any other matter and asked the District Judge to treat this incident as a “one off.” “It was a foolish decision,” he said.
District Judge Barney McElholm imposed a six month probation order and disqualified Barrett from driving for eight months. “If she is back in this court she is putting herslf at risk of an immediate sentence,” he said.
