Fined for disorderly behaviour

A man who threw a can of beer at a police car has been fined £550.

Sean Tracey, of Brickfield Court, pleaded guilty to attempted criminal damage and disorderly behaviour on July 9.

Derry Magistrates Court heard police were called to an incident involving ‘nationalist and loyalist youths’.

The 27-year-old threw a can of beer at the police car and also threw two stones, which did not hit the vehicle.

Tracey ran off the direction of the Bogside and when he was arrested ‘used sectarian language’ towards the officers.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley told the court his client had ‘very little’ to do with the initial incident. He said it was a situation where Tracey found himself ‘in the wrong place at the wrong time’.

Mr Quigley said Tracey has a criminal record and he is ‘aware that if he is not very careful’ in the future he will spend time in custody.
