Fined for resisting police arrest

A Strathfoyle man who called police ‘scummy black useless b*******’ has been fined £250.

Jason John James Margowicz, of The Old Fort, Strathfoyle, pleaded guilty to resisting police on February 21.

Derry Magistrate’s Court was told police received a report about someone’s safety and they went to a flat in Rockmills.

The front door of the flat was open and officers heard raised voices inside.

Police were confronted by the 25-year-old who lunged at them and started shouting and swearing.

He told the officers to ‘f*** off you black eyed b*******’ before making further comments.

Margowicz struggled with police and lunged forwards in an attempt to head butt an officer.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said police were called by a third party as a ‘drunken prank’.

He said his client knew nothing about the call and he ‘simply did not know what was going on’ when police arrived and he reacted.
