Freemasons and the PSNI

Over three per cent of PSNI officers are Freemasons, it has emerged.

Last year 232 of 381 officers who declared membership of “organisations which may reasonably be perceived as affecting an officer’s ability to discharge their duties impartially” said they were members of the Grand Order of Freemasons.

The basic, local organisational unit of Freemasonry is the lodge. The lodges are usually supervised and governed at the regional level (usually coterminous with either a state, province, or national border) by a Grand Lodge or Grand Orient.
