A security alert in Galliagh has ended after a suspicious object discovered was declared a hoax.
Police have just confirmed that Army Technical Offficers examined the device before declaring it a hoax this morning.
The object has been removed from the scene for further examination.
A cordon has now been lifted on the Glengalliagh Road and the road has reopened to traffic.
Access to a large part of the Galliagh estate had remained sealed off overnight due to the ongoing security alert.
The operation, which began around 10pm, had closed off access from Moss Road to the junction opposite St Brigid’s College.
