A ten year old girl has been assaulted by a gang of five youths in Derry.

Police say the incident took place on November 25 in the Central Drive area of the city and are keen to talk to a passing motorist who stopped to help the girl.

“At approximately 9.50pm as the girl walked along the road she was assaulted by a group of five youths. She sustained an injury to her finger and a bump to her head,” a PSNI spokesman said.

PSNI Constable Terry Lever appealed for the female driver of a car who stopped and gave assistance to the girl “to contact Police at Strand Road as she may have information which would assist police enquiries.

“I would also appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this assault to contact us also on the non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
