Headbutted in Derry assault

A man has received hospital treatment after being headbutted during a gang assault in Derry.

Police say the 24 year old required treatment to his face after the assault in Lower Nassau Street area in the early hours of Sunday (18 August).

“A 24-year-old man was approaching the steps at the fields between Glen Road and Lower Nassau Street when he was surrounded by about eight males, thought to be in their late teens.

“One of them headbutted him. He required hospital treatment for an injury to his face,” a police spokeswoman said.

His attacker is described as being of medium build, about 6ft tall, with medium length dark hair short at the back and sides, wearing a zippered black tracksuit top.

Police say he spoke with a local accent.
