A 59-year-old is to stand trial at Derry Crown Court accused of wounding a man.

Kieran Edward Joseph McLaughlin, of Elaghmore Park, is charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possessing a Stanley knife.

He faces two further charges of making threats to kill.

The charges relate to an alleged incident on October 8, last year.

During a hearing at Derry Magistrates Court, District Judge Barney McElholm found there is a prima facie case for the 59-year-old to answer.

McLaughlin declined to say anything in answer to the charges or to call any evidence on his own behalf.

When asked by the clerk of the court, the defendant replied ‘no comment’.

McLaughlin, who waved to family members as he was led from the dock, was remanded in custody and will appear at the Crown Court for arraignment on May 15.
