Limavady man jailed for being disorderly at Twelfth parade orderly

Derry Magistrate’s Court heard that police saw Moore in the Main Street area during the Twelfth ‘celebrations’.

He was in a drunken state and appeared to be ‘agitated’.

Police continued to observe the defendant and asked him to leave the area because his demeanour was ‘becoming more and more aggressive’.

The officers became aware that Moore was subject to bail conditions which banned him from consuming alcohol. He was also in the company of a female he was banned from having contact with.

Police spoke to him and he became verbally abusive.

The court heard he called the officers ‘scumbags’ and told one of them ‘I hope you die in a car crash’.

Moore continued to shout and call the police ‘fenian b*******’ in the presence of families and children.

The defendant was arrested.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley told the court his client was ‘extremely drunk’.

He added that Moore was in ‘particularly bad form because he realised the consequences and knew he was going to be arrested and go back to prison’.

Passing sentence, District Judge Barney McElholm said ‘this was nasty behaviour, particularly in light of the Orange Order’s campaign about the battle and not the bottle. Then you have people like this defendant who come along and spoil it for everybody’.

The judge jailed Moore for two months.
