Man (21) arrested over Ballykelly stabbing

A 21-year-old man has been arrested following a stabbing in Ballykelly at the weekend.

The 34-year-old victim was stabbed in the thigh at around 4.15am on Saturday.

Police say he was taken to hospital with injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

The detained man is helping police with their enquiries.

Local SDLP councillor Orla Beattie said people were shocked to hear of the incident.

“Thankfully, we are told the injuries inflicted on this occasion were not life- threatening and the victim is recovering from the attack. I would appeal to anybody with information regarding this incident to contact the police and I wish the victim a speedy recovery,” she said.

“It’s shocking to think that somebody has been stabbed in a village like Ballykelly. Hopefully this has been an isolated incident.”
