A 52-year-old Limavady man caught driving with excess alcohol in urine “took a chance”, a court heard this week.
Paul King Magee with an address at Windyhill Road, Limavady, appeared at Limavady Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for the offence committed on 27 July.
The court heard the 52-year-old was seen by police on Killane Road driving with no lights on. Police stopped him and he failed a preliminary breath test. The court heard a subsequent test in urine revealed a reading of 140mgs.
Defence for King Magee said the defendant had been out for his birthday and, he “took a chance” to drive after he couldn’t get a taxi. He said if King Magee lost his licence it would cause great difficulty for him.
District Judge Liam McNally said it was unfortunate King Magee had blemished his clear record. He imposed a fine of £200, an offenders’ levy of £15 and a one-year disqualification.
