Man (60) arrested as part of Dungiven paramilitary probe

Detectives from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch are continuing with their investigation into paramilitary activity in the Dungiven area with the arrest of a 60-year-old man in County Antrim on Monday.

As part of the same investigation, five men were arrested last week in the Dungiven and Foreglen areas.

As part of the investigation, last Thursday, a number of properties in the Dungiven and Foreglen areas were searched.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Four of the men were released unconditionally. One will have a report sent to the Public Prosecution Service.”

Police said the 60-year-old man arrested on Monday was yesterday being questioned at Antrim police station.

In a statement, PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Una Jennings, from the Serious Crime Branch, said: “We are investigating various forms of paramilitary activity in the Dungiven area, predominantly over the last four years.

“These include shooting incidents and threats.”
