A 25-year-old man has appeared in court accused of exposing himself by walking along the Strand Road with his trousers and underwear around his ankles.
Liam Carlin, whose address was given on court papers as Strand Road, is charged with indecent exposure on February 8.
He is further charged with common assault and theft relating to two separate incidents between June 2014 and January 5, this year.
Derry Magistrates Court heard allegations CCTV operators contacted police after they spotted a man walking along with his trousers and underwear around his ankles.
He approached members of the public at one stage and his genitalia was exposed.
The 25-year-old was also connected to an unprovoked assault on January 5 by CCTV operators.
Carlin allegedly punched the injured party to the head and knocked him to the ground. He is accused of kicking the man to the head three times.
An investigating officer opposed bail and told the court Carlin had breached conditions in the past.
A defence solicitor told the court alcohol addiction is an issue for his client and he needs to seek help in relation to it.
District Judge Barney McElholm said if he could remand the 25-year-old to ‘somewhere like Northlands, where he would get treatment or counselling, I would. But under the present system I can’t’.
Bail was refused and Carlin was remanded in custody until February 26.
