Man appears in court over Derry stabbing

A man has appeared in court charged with a stabbing incident at the weekend.

Kevin Martin Ward, of 9 Sheriffs Glen, is charged with the burglary of a house in Laburnum Terrace with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

The 28-year-old is further charged with assaulting the homeowner and threatening to kill his wife.

The offences are alleged to have been committed in the early hours of November 27.

An investigating officer told Derry Magistrates Court he believed he could connect Ward to the charges.

It was revealed to the court the 28-year-old was released from custody earlier this month, after serving a sentence for assault.

Defence solicitor Paddy McDaid said he would not be making a bail application on behalf of his client at this time.

Ward was remanded in custody and as the 28-year-old was led from the dock he was hugged by his mother.

He will appear in court again via videolink on December 8.
