Man charged with attempted murder remanded in custody

A 44-year-old man has appeared in court accused of attempted murder.

John Paul O’Rourke, of Canterbury Park, faces a total of eight offences in relation to an alleged incident in the early hours of July 20.

They include attempted murder, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of a knife, attempted grievous bodily harm and making a threat to kill.

The incident allegedly occurred in the Summer Meadows Park area of the Waterside.

Derry Magistrates Court heard O’Rourke is a family friend of the alleged injured party.

The court also heard allegations that the injured party sustained three stab wounds to his back and remains in a stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

There was no bail application and the 44-year-old was remanded in custody.

He will appear in court again on August 14.
