A man has denied possessing a sub-machine gun and hand grenades.

Gary Pius McPhillips, of Hawkin Street, pleaded not guilty to a total of five weapons charges.

They include possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possessing explosives in suspicious circumstances.

The 30-year-old also denied possessing prohibited weapons, namely a CS gas cannister and a combined stun gun and torch device on December 20, 2012

The court was told the trial is likely to last two weeks. McPhillips was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on May 2 when the case will be reviewed.
