Man in Northern Ireland top attacked in Derry

A man wearing a Northern Ireland football top has been attacked by a gang of up to fifteen youths in Celtic shirts in the Waterside area of Derry.

Police say the man, aged in his twenties, was assaulted at Spencer Road at around 9pm on Sunday night ( March 25).

“At around 9pm a male in his twenties was set upon by a group of around fifteen youths. The victim sustained injuries to his face and body and was treated in hospital,” a PSNI spokeswoman says.

“Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Spencer Road around 9pm on Sunday night and may have witnessed the attack or saw the group of youths.”

Police say they are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
