Man jailed for nightclub attack

A Limavady man who admitted a ‘thuggish attack’ in a nightclub has been jailed for six months.

Mark Harry Deehan, of Glenview Drive in the town, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm on October 27, last year.

Derry Magistrates Court heard the injured party was in Sweet Nightclub when the 19-year-old’s brother approached him and pushed him.

Deehan then got involved in the incident and punched the injured party several times on the head and face. As a result of the assault the injured party sustained bruising to his chin, eye socket and cheek. He also had a chipped tooth

It was revealed Deehan had been released on licence two months prior to this incident and was recalled to prison.

Jailing the teen, District Judge Barney McElholm said it was a ‘thuggish attack’ and the injured party sustained serious injuries.

“This young man needs to learn he cannot go around assaulting people when the notion take him”.
