Man pleads guilty to possessing explosives in Burnfoot

A man is due to be sentenced today for possessing explosives at an address in Burnfoot, Co Donegal.

Mark Cassidy pleaded guilty at Letterkenny Circuit Court yesterday to possession of 87 12-gauge shotgun cartridges without authorisation of a firearms certificate and possession of an explosive substance, namely an improvised device at Grianan Vale, Burnfoot on 17th February, 2014.

Justice Matthew F. Deery adjourned the case until today, Wednesday, for sentencing.

The court previously heard Cassidy is originally from Derry and is a serving member of the Irish Defence Forces.
