Police in Derry are appealing for information about an assault on a man in the Pennyburn area of the city.

Constable McAllister, the investigating officer, said that, at about 2.30pm on Thursday, a man was sitting in a car parked near the Credit Union office at Greenhaw Road.

He said: “The driver’s side door was flung open by a man who began punching the car’s occupant. He was then pulled from the car and the assailant began kicking and jumping on him.

“At this stage, it is believed the victim has a broken cheekbone. He has severe swelling on the right side of his face and a graze to the back of his head.”
