A man has been shot three times in the Galliagh area of Derry.

He was shot in the Bracken Park area, and police have appealed for witnesses.

SDLP Councillor Brian McTierney visited the scene.

He said “another young person has been shot tonight in Galliagh. This is a completely unacceptable attack that has distributed the residents in the area. The shooting was done in full view of other young people who are terrified. I absolutely condemn this attack.

“There is a heavy police presence in the area and I am hearing information that the cordoned off area is most likely going to be extended to the Moss Road area.”

A PSNI statement said: “Police are appealing for information following a man, aged in his 20s, being shot in the right leg in the Bracken Park area this evening.”
