A man who stole perfume and watches from a chemist has been fined £150.
Sean Patrick Constantine Grant, of Fergleen Park, pleaded guilty to one charge of theft on November 5.
Derry Magistrates Court heard the 22-year-old went into the chemist in Northside Shopping centre to collect a prescription.
While the assistant was distracted he stole perfume and watches worth £80 and left the store.
Grant handed himself into police later that afternoon and said he did not know why he stole the items.
He returned all the items and only one watch was not fit for resale.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott told the court it was an ‘opportunistic theft’.
He added that it was ‘very foolish’ and the 22-year-old was always going to be caught because the chemist knew his identity.
