Man to stand trial for witness intimidation

A Limavady man is to stand trial at Derry Crown Court accused of witness intimidation.

David Gary McCallion, of Roemill Gardens in the town, is further charged with making a threat to damage property and common assault.

The charges relate to an alleged incident on February 26.

Defence solicitor Walter Hegarty accepted there was a prima facie case for the 32-year-old to answer.

District Judge Barney McElholm refused an application for bail. He said the charge of witness intimidation is “one of the most serious offences” as it “undermines the entire criminal justice system”.

McCallion was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on August 29.
