A 40-year-old man is to stand trial at Derry Crown Court accused of sexual assault.

Patrick Sweeney, whose address was given on court papers as Methodist City Mission, Crawford Square, faces one count of sexual assault by penetration.

The charge relates to an alleged incident between September 6 and September 9, 2013.

During a brief hearing, Sweeney declined to say anything in answer to the charge or to call any evidence on his behalf.

Paddy MacDermott, defence solicitor, accepted there is a case for his client to answer.

The 40-year-old was released on his own bail of £500 and ordered to have no contact with the alleged injured party.

He will appear at the crown court for arraignment on February 6.
