A man who urinated in the corner of a cubicle of Altnagelvin Hospital has been ordered to pay £250 to the Friends of Altnagelvin Charity.

Michael Cecil Harkin appeared in Derry Magistrate’s Court on Friday charged with indecent and disorderly behaviour. The court was told that Harkin (53), of Circular Road had been brought to the hospital by police on May 11.

He was reported to have been shouting and swearing at police and had his fists clenched. He was then observed urinating in the corner of a cubicle.

Defence barrister Eoghan Devlin said he was aware that the location where the event took place was an aggravating factor.

He added that at the time this happened his client was in a vulnerable state.

“He has asked me to apologise to the staff, patients and to the court,” he said.

For disorderly behaviour Harkin was sentenced to four months’ jail suspended for two years and for indecent behaviour he was put on probation for 18 months.
