A 76-year-old man is to be arraigned at Derry Magistrates Court next month on accusations of sexual offences dating back to the 1950s.

Before the court was Patrick Joseph O’Hagan with an address at 57 Groarty Road in the city.

He stands accused a series of charges, including 20 incidents of indecent assault on a male, four counts of attempted buggery of a boy under 16 and two counts of gross indecency with or towards a child.

All of the allegations are said to have occured between September 11, 1954 and July 16, 1957.

Prosecuting counsel told Derry Court they believe the defendant has a prima facie case to answer. The defendant made no response when the allegations were put to him.

Resident Magistrate, Barney McElholm released the defendant on his own bail of £500 on the condition that he has no contact whatsoever with any of the alleged injured parties and set a date of March 15 for arraignment.
