Police appeal for witnesses to Foyle Street incident

The PSNI have appealed for anyone who witnessed an incident in which a homeless man sustained a burn injury to come forward.

A statement released by police in Derry this morning said: “The incident is believed to have occurred at about 7pm on Sunday, December 27, in the Foyle Street area of Derry. The man, who is in his 50s, sustained a burn to his jeans and lower leg.

“Police have spoken to witnesses who saw and doused the flames, however at this stage there is no clear evidence of how the incident started.”

CCTV footage from the area is now being examined. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at Strand Road using the non-emergency number 101.
