Police hunt man who held knife to woman’s throat in Derry

Police are hunting a man who held a knife to a woman’s throat in an attack in Derry.

Detectives at Strand Road have now issued an appeal for information following the incident, which occured in Ballymagroarty.

The woman’s terrifying ordeal began at around 8.30pm on Monday, but details have just been released.

Police said the woman was walking at Stephen’s Court when the man approached her.

Constable Armstrong, the investigating officer, said: “The man held a knife towards the woman’s throat and made threats to her.

“He was accompanied by another male, who was not involved in the incident but was present at the time.

“This assault occurred in the vicinity of a mobile shop in a residential area and so there is a possibility that there were other people in the area at the time or immediately before or after. “We would like anyone who saw the incident, or has any information about it, to contact us on 101, or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
