Police probing sexual assault in Derry

Detectives in Derry are investigating a report that a woman was subjected to a serious sexual assault in the city on Wednesday.

The assault on the woman, aged in her 30s, is alleged to have occurred at a property in the Glenabbey Drive area of Galliagh.

PSNI Detective Constable Caroline McGrath confirmed that two men aged 22 and 27 have been arrested and are currently in custody assisting police with their enquiries.

The police investigation is continuing.

Independent Derry City & Strabane District Councillor for the area Dee Quigley meanwhile said: “The local community is shocked.

“This is definitely something this community is not used to.

“I would urge people to be vigilant.”
