Two men have been arrested following a report of an attempted robbery in Derry on Friday night, October 10, 2014.
The incident took place at Northland Stores around 9pm.
Detective Inspector Cherith Craig said: “We received a report that a man armed with a knife had entered the shop and demanded money. No money was handed over and the suspect was restrained by members of the public and duly arrested on the arrival of police at the scene. A second man believed to have been involved in this incident was arrested a short time later. The men, both aged 19, remain in custody at this time helping with enquiries.”
SDLP representative for the area, Councillor Shauna Cusack said: “Yet again we have a small local businesses and more importantly innocent workers subjected to a terrifying ordeal because of mindless thugs. These people have nothing to offer society but rather choose to take from those hard working people struggling in these tough economic times. The fact that weapons were used is even more worrying and I am just glad no one was injured and even more relieved that the PSNI have reprimanded those responsible.”
