Screwdriver robber threatens shop worker

Detectives are hunting a man who robbed a shop in Derry after threatening staff with a screw driver.

The armed robbery occurred in the Strathfoyle area on Thursday evening.

The masked man, armed with the screwdriver, entered a shop on Deramore Drive at around 6.30pm.

He threatened a woman working there before forcing her behind the counter and making her open the till.

The robber then grabbed some money from the till and ran off.

The shop assistant was left shocked, but was physically unhurt.

Detective Inspector McStravick said: “The robber is described as wearing a full face mask, commonly known as a ‘morph mask’.

“Witnesses describe him as being around six feet tall and slim, possibly aged between 20 and 30.

“He is understood to have spoken with a local Derry accent.
