Shipping company accused of health and safety breach

A shipping company is to stand trial accused of failing to ensure the health and safety of employees.

Burke Shipping Services Limited, which is based at the Administration Building, Lisahally, Port Road, is further charged with failing to ensure that work at a height was properly planned, supervised and carried out on August 20, last year.

The company is further accused of failing to ensure that lifting equipment was appropriate for lifting people.

The operations director of the company appeared in court and declined to say anything in answer to the charges or to call any evidence.

The case will be mentioned again at the city’s Crown Court on September 13.
