Sinn Féin Councillor Eric McGinley has branded the shooting of a man in the Ballymagroarty area of Derry at the weekend “a futile action”.
The victim of the shooting was in his 30s.
He was shot in both ankles in the vicinity of Yeats Court at around 3.35am on Sunday.
He is currently being treated in hospital for his injuries.
Councillor McGinley said: “The shooting of a man in Ballymagroarty was totally wrong and I condemn it unreservedly.
“There can be no place in our society for such actions.
“Those behind this incident have nothing to offer the local community and need to stop these futile actions immediately.
“I would appeal for anyone with information on this shooting to bring it forward to the PSNI.”
PSNI Inspector Gregory Smith has appealed for anyone with information about the shooting to contact Detectives at Strand Road on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
