Detectives in Derry are appealing for information after a report of shots fired in the Dove Gardens area last night.

Shortly before midnight, it was reported that two masked were in the area. It is believed that four shots were fired. No one is believed to have been injured during the incident and enquiries are continuing.

SDLP Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey condemned those behind the shooting.

“This attack in the heart of the Bogside is unacceptable and intolerable,” said Mr Ramsey.

“Thankfully no one was injured, but no matter what excuse or reason is put forward by the gunmen skulking around in the dead of night, there is no justification for this type of reckless action.

“The people of the Bogside don’t want it and the people of Derry don’t want it. What happened last night in Dove Gardens was a disgraceful and inexcusable act, and those responsible must stop now.”

Anyone with any information about this is asked to contact CID in Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
