Stopped for no helmet and had no insurance

A man who drove a scrambler without insurance has been fined at the local magistrates court.

Mark Melly, of Dunmore Gardens, pleaded guilty to having no insurance on May 2.

The court heard police were on patrol in the Beechwood Avenue area of the city when the stopped the 25-year-old riding the scrambler.

He admitted he did not have any insurance for the vehicle.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said his client was testing the bike for his nephew, who was interested in buying it. However, he accepted he did not have an insurance policy to do this.

Fining Melly £150, Deputy District Judge Terence Dunlop also imposed six penalty points.
