Teen accused of parade disorderly remanded

District Judge Barney McElholm made the comment as a 15-year-old boy appeared in court for breaching his bail conditions.

The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, was released on bail last Thursday and breached his conditions over the weekend.

He is charged with behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace during the Apprentice Boys Parade.

The teen is furher charged with disorderly behaviour on August 13.

Following his release on bail, the defendant told the investigating officer he was not going to comply with the conditions.

He was then arrested for further offences which are currently under investigation by police.

Opposing bail, the officer told the court police ‘do not have any faith’ he will adhere to conditions.

She added that the risk of further offences has increased.

Defence solicitor Mr. Ciaran McGuinness said his client contacted him on Friday to state he wanted his bail revoked.

However, the defendant did not attend the police station to have this done.

He said the boy is ‘struggling’ with mental health problems as a result of a recent bereavement and is ‘under a fair amount of stress’.

Judge McElholm revoked bail because it is ‘almost inevitable’ the boy will continue to breach bail and commit further offences.

He said maybe the boy ‘needs a bit of time out’.

The teenger was remanded in custody to appear at the Youth Court again via videolink on September 6.
