Teen charged with Abercorn Road hit and run

Jamie Mullan, of Sherrifs Road, faces a total of 18 charges relating to an alleged incident in the Abercorn Road area of the city on November 8, last year.

They include causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving, dangerous driving and having no insurance.

The 19-year-old is further charged with failing to stop or remain at the scene of an accident and failing to report it.

Mullan had been released on police bail to appear in court for the first time later this month.

However, the court appearance was brought forward after the teen breached a condition of bail.

An investigating officer told Derry Magistrates Court she believed she could connect the defendant to the charges.

She told the court Mullan was arrested for breach of bail because he was out past his curfew.

Police were attempting to speak to the 19-year-old about a ‘high profile missing person’ who was last seen in his company.

He claimed he was at the hospital because he was experiencing mental health difficulties.

However, the teen was not at the hospital when police checked.

Mullan was eventually located at the hospital in the early hours of the morning and arrested for breach of bail.

There was no objection to the teen being re-released on bail.

Mullan was released on his own bail of £500 and ordered to abide by a curfew from 10pm to 7am.

He was banned from consuming alcohol and from driving any car.

District Judge Barney McElholm also ordered Mullan to contact police prior to seeking medical treatment during the hours of curfew.

The 19-year-old will appear in court again next month.
