A teenager from London who has been living in Derry for the last six weeks appeared before the city’s Magistrate’s Court on Friday charged with sexually assaulting a 15 years-old schoolgirl inside the grounds of a local college.
Adam Titheridge (19), whose address was given as Glenside Gardens in Derry, was arrested at a friend’s house on Thursday afternoon.
He’s accused of carrying out the offence inside the grounds of Foyle and Londonderry College on the night of July 8.
The defendant is further charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and with assaulting the schoolgirl on the same date.
The defendant replied: “I understand the charges”, when they were read to him by a court clerk.
Dect. Const. Dermot Williamson said he believed he could connect the defendant to the three charges.
Questioned by defence solicitor Maeloisa Barr, the police witness confirmed that the defendant had co-operated fully with the police during his interviews.
The officer said that during the interviews, the accused stated that he had consented unprotected sex with the girl. There was no bail application and the defendant was remanded in custody until July 25.
Mr. Barr said that on that date a video link hearing would be held during which he would be making a bail application.
