Teenager told ‘go to work or go to jail’

A 19-year old teenager from Limavady was told he had to choose between going to work or jail when he was sentenced for theft at the town’s Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Blake Stephen McFarland from 97 Whitehill Park was convicted of stealing a 7 Up bottle belonging to the Roe View Inn on a date unknown between March 26 and March 30, 2011,

District Judge Paul Copeland sentenced McFarland to complete 175 hours of community service.

“You’ve an appalling record and there is a requirement you do the work and do what you’re instructed and when instructed,” said Mr. Copeland, adding: “You’ve a choice: go to work or go to jail.”
