Threat to kill charge: trial

A man and a woman have been returned for trial accused of falsely imprisoning a woman.

Darren McKeown, aged 30, of Mullanary Road, Blackwater, Co.Armagh, is charged with common assault, harassment, breaching a restraining order, making a threat to kill and false imprisonment of the female.

His co-accused, 24-year-old Marie Sarah Maben, is charged with false imprisonment.

The charges relate to an incident which is alleged to have occurred in the Elm Close area of the city on June 26, last year.

During a brief hearing at Derry Magistrate’s Court last week, both defendants declined to say anything in answer to the charges or to call any evidence on their own behalf.

Defence solicitors accepted there was a prima facie case for their clients to answer.

McKeown was remanded in custody and Maben was released on her own bail of £500 to appear at the city’s Crown Court at Bishop Street in Derry on February 27 for arraignment.
