Police believe a gang of travelling criminals is behind a spate of high value thefts in Derry.

A PSNI spokesman said the gang of three men - thought to be from Scotland- carried out three thefts in the city over the past week and a further theft in Magherafelt.

“On Saturday, a gang of three men stole several hundred pounds worth of football tops from a sports shop in the Crescent Link retail park,” a police spokesman said.

“The same men then went into the City Centre to a store on Ferryquay Street and cleared out a display of about 30 designer shirts worth about £750.

“And police received another report that on Tuesday, 25, the same gang of men entered a store at Carlisle Road and stole six pairs of jeans total valued at £600.”

In each case, the gang used a box inside a large blue Argos bag.

A similar incident took place in Magherafelt on March 15.

Police said the men are thought to be travelling criminals and at least two of them spoke with a Scottish accent.
