A man is to stand trial at Derry Crown Court accused of raping a teenage boy.

Michael Patrick Doherty, with a bail address in Jersey, faces two charges of rape allegedly committed between November 6 and November 9, last year.

During a brief hearing at the city’s Magistrates Court, the 41-year-old confirmed he understood the charges.

He declined to say anything in answer to them or to call any evidence on his own behalf.

Defence counsel Nicola Coulter accepted there is a case for Doherty to answer.

Doherty was released on continuing bail to appear in court again on September 7.
