Three men have been arrested in Derry after the van they were travelling in collided with police cars on both sides of the border.
A PSNI spokesman confirmed that the men - aged 26, 32 and 33 - were arrested this morning (February 15) and are currently helping police with their enquiries.
“At approximately 9.30am it was reported that a number of men had tried to gain access to a house and then rammed a car parked at the property before driving off,” the police spokesman said.
“A short time later a van collided with a police car causing extensive damage. It was later reported that the van had crossed the border and was involved in a further collision with two Garda vehicles responding to a request for assistance. The van was finally stopped by PSNI officers on the Groarty Road and the three occupants arrested.”
The spokesman said the office of the Police Ombudsman has been notified.
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact police in Strand Road on 0845 600 8000.
