Two armed robberies at bookies

Two armed robberies were carried out at bookmaker offices in the city last night.

Shortly after 6pm, it was reported that a man entered a bookmakers Strand Road area armed with a gun and ordered staff to hand over a quantity of money.

He then made off in a black car which was later found in the Bishop Street area.

Thirty minutes later, it was reported that a man entered another bookmaker’s premises at Foyle Street and forced staff to hand over money at gunpoint.

A 34 year old man, believed to have been involved in both incidents, was arrested and is currently helping police with their enquiries.
