Catholic and Protestant Church leaders in the North West have issued a joint statement deploring a spate of apparently sectarian arson attacks in Donegal.

Fire damage has been caused to two Orange Halls and a Presbyterian Church in Newtoncunningham and Convoy within the past fortnight.

In a joint statement, Catholic Bishops of Derry and Raphoe Donal McKeown and Philip Boyce, Paul Gallucci, Acting Superintendent of the Methodist Mission, Ken Good, CoI Bishop of Derry and Raphoe and Rev John Hanna, Moderator of the Presbytery of Derry and Donegal said the attacks were a “a very unfortunate and regrettable development”.

“It is heartening to hear local political, community and church leaders speaking with one voice in condemning the attacks and in acknowledging that such incidents cause distress and sadness,” they said.
