Police, SF Colr. Sandra Duffy and Galliagh Community Response yesterday made separate appeals for people to be vigilant and to look out for the wallet after the robbery at 2pm on Saturday at a bus stop in the Fergleen Park area of the city.

The wallet contained photos and religious material of great sentimental value to the owner. Some reports however suggest that while the wallet was recovered, some of the items inside it were found to be damaged or destroyed.

A PSNI spokesperson confirmed this afternoon: "Yesterday afternoon an elderly female had her wallet stolen and was pushed to the ground whilst waiting for a bus on the Moss Road.

"The wallet belonged to her late husband.

"Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Team worked tirelessly on this case and just before midnight arrested a male before locating the wallet and contents.

"We want to thank the local community for all their assistance and for the love, compassion and support being given to the victim at this time."
