A woman who slapped her aunt in a Waterside bar has been fined and ordered to pay compensation.
Ann Johnston, of The Bolies, pleaded guilty to common assault on June 16.
Derry Magistrate’s Court heard the 39-year-old had an argument with her aunt and hit her on the cheek, leaving her distressed.
Defence solicitor Dermot Downey said his client claims the injured party made some insulting and hurtful remarks to her and she reacted by hitting her.
Fining the 39-year-old £250 and ordering her to pay £200 compensation, District Judge Barney McElholm said the injured party had a different version of events.
He said the assault was “unprovoked” and there is “no call for this type of behaviour whatsoever”.
